IRS Busts Trump’s Phony Charity For Scamming Veterans, Revokes Its Nonprofit Status

Most of us are appalled by the things Donald Trump has to say. He has been very callous with his disrespect towards war hero John McCain while venerating our troops in the next breath. So it makes sense that he may have helped a shady veterans’ group raise funds that does not actually work for veterans’ advocacy. On Tuesday, he appeared on the USS Iowa in Los Angeles to accept an endorsement from a “nonprofit” veterans group, Veterans for a Strong America, headed by huckster Joel Arends. Arends’ group, according to the Associate Press lost its nonprofit status in early August for not filing tax returns, which would...

The Health Effects of Leaving Religion

Curtis Penfold got kicked out of his apartment, fired from his job, and left Brigham Young University all in the same week. He left BYU—a private university operated by The Church of Latter-day Saints—because he had started to disagree with some of the Church’s views, causing tension between him and school officials. His exit from the school caused him to lose his on-campus job, and he subsequently resigned from the Mormon Church. Resigning from the church resulted in getting kicked out of his religiously-affiliated private housing, and he received angry emails from old friends and phone calls from his disappointed parents who said he “lost...

Donald Trump: “We’re going to be looking at” how to “get rid of Muslims” and foreigners like Obama

During a town hall meeting, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump was provided with a spectacular opportunity to dispel, once and for all, the notion that he’s a birther — and he turned it down. “We have a problem in this country,” a questioner said, “it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one. You know he’s not even an American. We have training camps growing where they want to kill us.” Trump — who spent much of much of Wednesday night’s debate talking over and interrupting other potential nominees — didn’t even attempt to challenge this interrogator, who did eventually get around to his question: “When can we get...

Debunking the Racist Immigration Myths Fueling Trump's Campaign

Two months ago, the Huffington Post made a gimmicky declaration: The news site would be relegating news of Donald Trump's presidential run to its "Entertainment" section. Back then, Trump's candidacy was a joke, a "sideshow," as HuffPo's editors put it.  Today, it doesn't seem quite so funny—at least not to the 11 million people living in America Trump says he wants to deport. Fuckface von Clownstick could still very well flame out before a single primary vote is cast, but there's no getting the toothpaste back in the tube: A major presidential candidate waged a virulent, unabashed campaign of incitement against Latino immigrants—and...

BREAKING: Airman Awarded Purple Heart Medal for Injuries in France Train Attack

U.S. Air Force officials compared Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone to the comic book hero "Captain America" and said he will receive the Airman's Medal and possibly the Purple Heart for helping stop a gunman on a European train. "What the gunman didn't expect was a confrontation with our very own 'Capt. America' -- and believe it or not, that is what Airman Stone's friends nicknamed him during Air Force technical training," Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James said during a press conference Monday at the Pentagon. Stone was traveling on a high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris on Friday when he, along with two of his friends and British...

Washington (CNN)American Airlines confirms to CNN that it accidentally put an Airbus A321S aircraft -- that was not certified to fly over the Pacific -- on a long-haul flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii. American spokesman Casey Norton said "someone on the ground" realized the mix-up sometime after AA Flight 31 had departed LAX on August 31st, filled with passengers and crew. American Airlines declined to identify who first noticed the mistake. Norton said American immediately notified the flight crew and the Federal Aviation Administration and the decision was made to allow the crew to complete the flight, and the plane landed...

Tsunami advisory for Hawaii, California after Chile quake

Hawaii and part of California's coast are under tsunami advisories after an 8.3-magnitude earthquake off the coast of north Chile. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had originally issued a watch for Hawaii, saying a tsunami may have been generated by Wednesday's earthquake. They later downgraded the alert to an advisory, saying that current data indicated there would be no major tsunami in the state, but that sea-level changes and dangerous currents could pose a threat to those in or near the water. The center estimated that the effects from the tsunami would arrive in Hawaii about 3 a.m. (6 a.m. PDT) Thursday. A similar advisory...

Ahmed Mohamed is getting lots of encouragement on social media, including from President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Police announced Wednesday that Mohamed, a freshman at Irving MacArthur High School, will not be charged with possessing a hoax bomb because there's no evidence that he meant to cause any harm. 5 Students Charged With Killing Classmate Could Face Death

Five Florida students have been charged with first-degree murder in the machete slaying of a fellow vocational school student and could face the death penalty. The Miami Herald reports that a grand jury indicted the five suspects Wednesday. Police say that in June, the Homestead Job Corps students lured 17-year-old Jose Amaya Guardado into a wooded area near the school, where he was hacked to death with the machete and buried in a shallow grave. The victim's brother found his body several days later. An arrest report contends the suspects planned the attack two weeks in advance. The murder has brought scrutiny to the Homestead...

10 Indicted, 80 Locations Raided in Biggest Synthetic Pot Crackdown in New York City History: Officials

Federal agents and New York City authorities raided about 80 locations throughout the city Wednesday and arrested six people in what officials are calling the largest crackdown on the importation, distribution and sale of synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as synthetic marijuana, in New York City history, law enforcement officials said. A total of 10 people were named in a federal indictment on charges of participating in a scheme to illegally import at least 100 kilograms of illegal synthetic compounds into the U.S., enough to produce 260,000 retail packets, officials said. The seizure had a street value of about $30 million. Of...

7 Kids Not Named Mohamed Who Brought Homemade Clocks to School And Didn't Get Arrested

Hoping to impress the teachers at his new school, an Irving, Texas, high school freshman named Ahmed Mohamed brought a homemade clock with him to MacArthur High Monday morning, which he’d assembled before bed the night before. When he showed it to those teachers, though, they were something other than impressed, and by Monday afternoon, Mohamed was being led out of school in handcuffs. Ahmed’s English teacher believed the device was a bomb. A Muslim teenager who...

White kid builds nuclear reactor and Homeland Security offers help

A Muslim teenager built a simple clock out of electronic components and took it to show his engineering teacher at school — but he was arrested when another teacher thought it looked like a bomb and alerted administrators. Police in Irving, Texas, never suspected the device was an explosive device and did not alert the bomb squad, but they still arrested 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed because he could offer no “broader explanation” for his clock besides describing it as a device that measures time. When another 14-year-old boy built a nuclear...
